New : Describing a building

The most beautiful building in my town is The Cathedral. It´s in the centre of Jaén,in Saint Mary´s Square. It is opposite the Town Hall.

The Cathedral of Jaén was designed by Andrés de Vandelvira. The construction began in 1249 and it was completed in 1724.It was built on the plot of an old mosque.

It is one of the most beautiful cathedrals in Spain. It´s 32 metres tall and 33 metres wide. The height doesn´t include the towers.
There are 9 big statues of the apostles over the main door and two twin towers.
the base of the Cathedral has the form of latin cross.

Inside the cathedral it is quite dark. There are beautiful stained glass windows, pictures, statues, a slender dome, the high alter, high chapel of Saint Rostro, minor chapels, choir, organ, museum,Custody,Diocesan archive, sacristia.

One of the best things you can do in Jaén is go sightseeing around the town and to take photos of the Cathedral at night, when it´s lit up.
If you go up to the archive of the cathedral you´ll contemplate the temple. The view is fantastic from its balconies.

Since 31st March of 2010, It isn´t free to go in and you must dress appropriately.
Note: children under 4 go free.
